Reflection on Micro Lesson 3

  1. Instructional Decisions/Teaching (InTask Standard # 9): Discuss the implementation process and describe
    • What went well and what didn't go well during the implementation of your lesson? My lesson was pretty successful. The powerpoint that I used to explain the different parts of a story was fun and easy to follow. The students liked the graphics that were included and enjoyed how the Three Little Pigs story was incorporated to help teach the lesson. I was a little bit off on time, however. I had about ten minutes left at the end of my lesson that I did not know what to do with. I had my students look through other stories on storybird.com to try to fill up the space. Now I know that I need to have tons and tons back up activities included with my lessons.
    • How well was the alignment to objectives and standards maintained? My standard stated that we were to describe the overall structure of a story including how the beginning of the story introduces everything and the end concludes everything. My objective stated that the students will create a story showing beginning, middle and end and publish them on storybird.com.
    • Describe any modifications made during the implementation of the lesson: During the lesson my students were working a lot faster than was expected, so I had to periodically stop them and regather them, asking questions about what the different parts of the story are and what are included in each part. Also, I had to ask my students to skim through other stories on storybird.com to fill up extra time that I had at the end of the lesson.
  2. Mechanics:
    • What technologies did I use (for the teacher and the learner)? For the teacher, I used the smartboard to show my powerpoint and online story. The students used storybird.com to create their short stories and publish them.
    • How were the technologies used (by whom and in what manner)? The students were able to see the powerpoint easily since it was on the giant smartboard. Also, the students were able to use their creativity when making their short stories on storybird.com. They had to use the pictures that were given to them and use their imagination to make them work with their story line.
    • My lesson was within the correct time frame
      • It was short because…My students are extremely smart and worked through the activities super fast. I have learned that having back up activities for every lesson is very important, because having free time is very dangerous for children.
  3. Assessment of Learning (InTask Standard # 6): Refer to Assessing Student Learning
    • Include at least 2 digital artifacts that demonstrate what you or your students (peers) have created as a result of your lesson:
    • Here are the links to my student's stories on storybird.com:
    • http://storybird.com/books/princess-and-the-maze-2/
    • Describe your students' level of success in achieving the standards and objectives for your lesson based on your assessment: The students did exactly what my objective stated, they created and published a short story on storybird.com with two pages dedicated to each parts of a story. My students did very well with this activity and directly showed me with their stories. I was able to assess my students as we did a short exit ticket stating what the different parts of the story are and what each part of the story does.
    • Describe the level of success you had in teaching the lesson
      • How do your individual reflections support this? I got all fives from my students on this lesson. I also feel like my students had a great time while learning about the parts of the story. The powerpoint that I found online really helped make this lesson successful and now I know that I can easily borrow powerpoints from others to enhance my lessons.
      • How do the comments from your classmates support this? My classmates stated that I did a great job with integrating technology and supporting their learning by constantly reviewing the material that we were learning.
